Working model for the Seismic Selector. Using the fact that f~1/L2, we have a good spread of frequencies with good selectivity. This unit will be mounted on a carriage that will allow users to easily shake it at appropriate frequencies. The final version will be decorated to look like buildings on a street with people and cars etc.

Different size objects have different natural frequencies for mechanical vibration. This property is crucial to the design of many mechanical objects and physical structures.
Earthquakes are mechanical waves traveling through the earth. The frequency of these waves can determine how individual buildings are affected. To give a feel for this I designed this Seismic Selector with Don Marvel at WonderaLab.
